Kelowna Youth Project

Health and Wellness Index for Kelowna Youth: Growing Healthy Children

About

There isn’t much information about the health and well-being of young people growing up in British Columbia, and particularly in Kelowna.  We are hoping that by assessing sedentary behaviour, sleep, physical activity, diet, cardiovascular health, psychological and social health among Kelowna children and youth, this will help us to better understand what it means to grow up in Kelowna today. This information does not currently exist and this study will help build knowledge around lifestyle and health in young people. Although it is not expected to prove effectiveness, the results will be used to help guide further studies that may benefit others.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between sedentary behavior, sleep, physical activity, diet, cardiovascular health, psychological and social health among Kelowna children and youth.

This information does not currently exist and this study will help build knowledge around lifestyle and health in the child. Although it is not expected to prove effectiveness, the results will be used to help guide further studies that may benefit others.

The PERL research team has been active within the community collecting data from 6 schools within Kelowna. We are now happy to be partnering with the Digital Wellness team from School District #23 to share the results of the project with the local community.
